How to Pass an Ontario Safety Inspection the First Time

A 10-minute checklist that saves you a failed Safety Standards inspection and a second trip.

Ontario Safety Standards inspections are thorough, but most failures come down to small stuff you can catch in your own driveway before you book.

The five-minute pre-check

  • All exterior lights working — brakes, signals, plate light.
  • Tires with legal tread depth and no cord showing.
  • Wipers that actually clear the glass.
  • Windshield free of cracks in the driver's line of sight.
  • No major fluid leaks under the car overnight.

Brakes, steering, and suspension are where most cars fail. If anything feels loose or noisy, get it diagnosed before your safety — and the diagnostic fee credits toward the fix.
